Newsela Reports for Admins

School and District Administrators have access to multiple Newsela and Newsela Writing reports via the Admin Console, that can be accessed by clicking 'Admin' at the top of any Newsela page.

Within the Admin Console, admins can access and download the following list of reports. Click the links below to learn more about each of the higher-level reports available. In this article we will focus on accessing Teacher Reports by impersonation.

What Data is Accessible to Admins by Impersonation?

Administrators have visibility into assignments and class-based reporting that they can access by impersonating teachers in their organizations. This allows admins an ability to provide better support for their teachers.

By impersonating teachers, admins can access the following:

  • Classroom Data

    • Class Overview

      • Average reading level

      • Total texts viewed by class

      • Minutes average reading time

      • Texts read by grade levels

    • Reading Skills

    • Reading Activity

  • Power Words Data

  • Assignment-specific Data

    • Quiz responses

    • Write prompt responses

    • Annotations

    • Read time

    • Checks for understanding

Note:

  • This impersonation feature is view-only, meaning while the admin can see what the teacher will see, the admin can't make any changes in the account.

  • Admins can download reports when impersonating teachers.

  • Admins can only impersonate teachers, they can not impersonate other admins.

  • If a teacher on the Faculty Directory is not yet verified in Newsela's systems, when the admin clicks the impersonate button it will throw an error. Admins can verify their staff members on the systems used for bulk-rostering for an automatic verification to take place in Newsela's system overnight; or they can reach out to Newsela's support team with a request to verify the teacher on the back-end.
