Reviewing Write Responses

In the activities panel on every article, students can respond to the Newsela writing prompt or a writing prompt customized by their teacher. Teachers can review and grade these responses in Assignments or in the Reading Summary section of the Binder.

From Assignments

  1. Click Assignments in the top menu.

  2. Select an assignment to view all articles within the assignment.

  3. Students who have completed a writing response will have a "Grade Now" in the "Students with Write Activity" column.

  4. Select a student's name from this page to bring up individual student activity data.

If a student has not yet completed their writing response, then 'Write' will not be shown under activities. If a response is available, select 'Write' from the article activities pop-up window.

  5. From here, you can share comments with the student by entering them on the Leave comments here line.

    • Select Return for Revision to give the student the opportunity to submit the writing response again.

    • To grade now, select a score of 1, 2, 3, or 4. Click Share Score.
