Caregiver Account Information
Caregivers, and all adults without a school-affiliated email, can create an account that allows them to be connected to a student but will not be connected to the student's school. These users will be in the Newsela Lite experience
Features accessible to parent accounts:
Add students to a single, auto-created classroom
Assign Articles to your class
View student quiz responses
Print articles and quizzes
Create a Caregiver Account
The first step is to create your own account. This account allows you to sign into Newsela to assign articles to your child.
Go to Newsela
Choose Parent, Tutor, or Caregiver, in the bottom right.
Follow the prompt to create an account using a Google or Microsoft connection, or by creating a username and password.
Verify your email address to begin using Newsela. To change your email address or if you need another verification email, use the links on the verification page.
Add Your Students
Newsela automatically creates a single class for any student to join in your Settings page. Students should use the same accounts they've already created at school. If they don't have accounts already, you can help them create accounts by sharing your Class Link.
Hover over your name at the top of the page and click Students.
Click Invite Students.
Share the Class Link or Class Code with your student.
Students can learn more about joining a class here.
Monitor Student Progress
Your caregiver account now has permissions to view student data in your account.
You can click on assignments to view the submitted work from your student in your class
Note: Only teachers with Newsela ELA, Newsela Science, Newsela Social Studies, or Newsela Essentials can review student work in the teacher Binder.
