How to Create a Teacher Account

All teachers can create Newsela accounts. If you have a Newsela subscription, the correct access will be added based on the school you choose when you join. To start, select the option that your school uses.

Creating an account with a username and password

  • Go to newsela.com

  • Click Join Now.

  • Newsela will ask you a few questions about your role and your school:

If you are a teacher, please select K-12 Teacher for full access to your subscription. (Selecting “Student”’ will restrict access to features and content. If you are an educator who signed up as a student in error, please contact us.)

  • Enter your school email address and a unique password for Newsela. 

    • Make sure to use your school email address. This helps us connect you to the correct school, and allows us to validate that you teach there.

  • Click "Select School"

    • If your email domain is linked to a school already,

      • A list of schools will appear.

      • Select the school in which you teach.

    • If your email domain is not linked to a school, or you can't find it in the list, Search for your school

      • Enter your school name

      • Enter your zip code

      • Select your school when it appears.

  • Once you add your information, you’ll receive a verification email from Newsela. If you don’t receive a verification email, or know you have created an account previously and don't see an option to merge them, contact us

 

Logging In

  1. Go to newsela.com

  2. Click Google.

  3. Click Sign In.  

  4. Enter your School/District Google credentials.

When You Log In For the First Time...

  • Go to newsela.com

  • Click Join Now.

  • Newsela will ask you a few questions about your role and your school:

    • Select K-12 Teacher for full access to the site and your subscription. (Selecting “Student” will restrict access to features and content. If you are an educator who signed up as a student in error, please contact us.)

  • Select your School/District Google credentials.

    • Make sure to select your school email address. This helps us connect you to the correct school and validate that you teach there.

    • If you’ve created a Newsela account in the past with an old email address, Newsela will give you the opportunity to merge accounts.

Logging in

  • Go to newsela.com

  • Click Sign In.

  • Click Clever.

  • You’ll see your School/District Clever login page. Log in using your School/District Clever credentials.

When you log in for the first time…

  • Go to newsela.com

  • Click Join Now.

  • Newsela will ask you to select your role.

    • Select K-12 Teacher for full access to the site and your subscription. (Selecting “Student”’ will restrict access to features and content. If you are an educator who signed up as a student in error, please contact us.)

  • Click Clever

  • You’ll see your School/District Clever login page. Log in using your School/District Clever credentials.

  1. Log into Canvas.

  2. Open a published class in Canvas.

  3. Click the Newsela link in the course navigation menu on the left side of the screen to open Newsela.

  4. Remember to always sign into Newsela through Canvas.

Note: If you don't see Newsela in your Canvas account, you can find information for resolving the issue on this page. If the issue still cannot be resolved, your district Canvas administrator may need to complete the setup by following these steps.

  • Click Microsoft.

  • Enter your School/District Microsoft credentials.

When you log in for the first time…

  • Go to newsela.com

  • Click Join Now.

  • Select K-12 Teacher for full access to your subscription.

    • Selecting “I’m a student”’ will restrict access to features and content. If you are an educator who signed up as a student in error, please contact us.

Logging In

  • Sign into your School/District Classlink account

  • Click on the Newsela icon within the portal, which will sign you into Newsela.

Signing in 

  1. Sign into Schoology.

  2. Open a currently active class in Schoology.

  3. Click the Newsela link in the course navigation menu on the left side of the screen to open Newsela.
