In the activities panel on every article, students can respond to the Newsela writing prompt or a writing prompt customized by their teacher. Teachers can review and grade these responses by following these steps:
- Go to the article page.
- On the left side, you will see a list of students who have completed work on the article. Under each student's name, you will see a row with a white pencil icon for each reading level at which they submitted a writing response. Click the row to view the writing response in the Write section of the activities panel.
- From here, you can share comments with the student by entering them on the Leave comments here line.
- Select Return for Revision to give the student the opportunity to submit the writing response again.
- To grade now, select a score of 1, 2, or 3 (you can find a rubric here). Click Share Score.
Note: You can also view writing response scores and return writing responses for revision from an individual student's Reading Summary tab in your Binder.
