All teachers can create Newsela accounts. If you have a PRO subscription, the correct access will be added based on your school. To get started, select the option that your school uses (or if you don’t know, select the “I don’t know” option).

^Newsela

    1. Go to newsela.com.
    2. Click the Join button.
    3. You’ll be asked to answer a few questions. When you enter your email address, make sure to use your school email address (this is how Newsela verifies that you’re connected to the correct school).
    4. Verify your email address by clicking the link in the verification email. If you don’t receive a verification email, contact us. 

^Google

  1. Go to newsela.com.
  2. Click the Join button.
  3. You’ll be asked to answer a few questions. On the page where you enter your name and email address, select Sign up with Google. Choose your faculty Google account (this is how Newsela verifies that you’re connected to the correct school). 

^Clever

  1. Your Newsela account has already been created by your Clever administrator. To access your Newsela account, go to newsela.com.
  2. Click the Sign In button, and then click the Clever button.
  3. Search for your school and enter your Clever credentials. You’ll then be returned to Newsela, where you’ll see your Clever classes on your Classes page. You can always sign in to Newsela by following these steps or by going through your Clever portal.   

Note: If you don’t see Newsela in your Clever portal, your district Clever administrator needs to complete the setup by following these steps.

^Canvas

  1. Your Newsela account has already been created by your Canvas administrator. To access your Newsela account, go to Canvas and sign in to your account.
  2. In Canvas, click on one of your classes. At the bottom of the left sidebar (Canvas course navigation), you’ll see a link to Newsela. Click that link to sign in to Newsela. (If you do not see that link, follow these steps.) 
  3. Remember to always sign into Newsela through Canvas.

Note: If you don't see Newsela in your Canvas account, you can find information for resolving the issue on this page. If the issue still cannot be resolved, your district Canvas administrator may need to complete the setup by following these steps.     

^Microsoft

  1. Go to newsela.com.
  2. Click the Join button.
  3. You’ll be asked to answer a few questions. On the page where you enter your name and email address, select Sign up with Microsoft. Choose your faculty Microsoft account (this is how Newsela verifies that you’re connected to the correct school).

^ClassLink 

  1. Your Newsela account has already been created by your ClassLink administrator. To access your Newsela account, sign into your ClassLink account.
  2. In ClassLink, click on Newsela.
  3. Remember to always sign into Newsela through ClassLink.

Note: If you don’t see Newsela in your ClassLink account, your district ClassLink administrator needs to complete the setup by following these steps.

Teachers at all schools can create Newsela accounts by going to newsela.com and clicking Join. If your priority is getting started right now, you can choose that option.

However, if your school might be using one of the integration options above, we suggest attempting to sign in with that method or asking your administrator or tech support staff. Your classes may have already been rostered for you with one of these integration options. Some districts may have their own names for these integration options (such as “Our District Portal” instead of “Clever”). You can also contact us and we’ll let you know if we have a record of a preferred integration option for your school.
