Strategies for Providing Feedback

Constructive comments from teachers or  peers can help strengthen students work. Through structured strategies students can feel empowered to give and receive feedback. Try one of these strategies with your students.

1. Glow and Grow

This model focuses on areas of strength and areas of growth within their writing.  The structure establishes that when we make mistakes we learn and thus, make progress. This feedback model can be used by educators or by students when reviewing writing or other forms of assessment.  

Recommended Educator Language

Glow: I see that you... / Here you shows me that....

Grow: I wonder...../ Can you find evidence to support this?  What are you referring to?  Can you use _strategy to...?

Recommended Student Language

Glow: I like how you...

Grow: Next time, can you try...
