Learning Objective

Students will be able to learn characteristics of different cultural and ethnic groups, immigration and historical racism and discriminatory events in the United States.

Today I am learningabout refugees and immigrants coming into the U.S. and the way these groups affect the political, social and economic characteristics of the U.S. and its people.

I know I understand whenI can explain what refugees are, how immigration into the U.S. works and when I can answer critical thinking questions about race and ethnic discrimination in the U.S.

Students will be able toexplore the issues of immigration, racial and ethnic conflicts in the U.S. through reading the featured Newsela articles and through Write prompts that will lead the student through critical thinking.
