Why teach media literacy?

In partnership with American Press Institute (API), Newsela has created a Media Literacy Toolkit. This toolkit will provide you with some strategies for teaching media literacy skills across content areas.

Who is API?

The American Press Institute is an educational nonprofit organization affiliated with the Newspaper Association of America. Their mission is to help media the advancement of media  by conducting research, training  and bringing together thought leaders.

Why teach media literacy?

So much of our information is received from news sources and social media. It is important to equip students with the skills to analyze and evaluate media in order to better understand the messages behind the content. This will lead to our students becoming critical thinkers and agents of change.
