Changing a student's name, username, or password (Teacher)

Teachers can change the names, usernames, and passwords of students in their classes. This affects the student's account and all changes will be reflected when the student logs in and when other teachers view this student in their classes.

NOTE: If the student is logged in when these changes are saved, the student can still continue to use Newsela. The student will use the new information the next time they log in. 

Changing a student's name or username

  1. Hover over your name in the Search and Navigation bar at the top and choose STUDENTS.
  2. Use Student Lookup or scroll down to locate the student.
  3. Click Edit .
  4. Update the student's name or username and click SAVE.

Changing a student's password

  1. Hover over your name in the Search and Navigation bar at the top and choose STUDENTS.
  2. Use Student Lookup or scroll down to locate the student.
  3. Click the Key  under Password.
  4. Type the new password.
    NOTE: A student's password must be at least six characters.
  5. Click SAVE.
