Using Annotations

Video

Adding an annotation

You can highlight sections of an article and add annotations in the margin of any article. When you add an annotation, only the student and teacher can see it.

  1. Select the text you want to highlight and the Annotator will appear in the margin.
  1. Choose a color to highlight the text.
  2. Type your annotation in the write something field. Newsela will automatically save your annotation as you type.

Editing an annotation

You can edit an annotation at anytime.

  1. Navigate to the annotation you want to edit.
  2. Click the highlighted text or the annotation.
  3. Edit the text in the Annotator. Newsela will automatically save your changes.

Deleting an annotation

You can only delete your own annotations.

  1. Navigate to the annotation you want to edit.
  2. Click the highlighted text or the annotation.
  3. In the Annotator, click the X.

Tip: If you're a Newsela  educator, you can reply to annotations a student adds to an article.
