Immigrant Communities (Sydney Fish, 3-5)

Sydney Fish

Sydney Fish is a teacher at Joan Martin Elementary in Hobart, Indiana. She finds that Newsela ties in well with the units and lessons she teaches her third grade students. Sydney is committed to making her students lifelong learners.  As a part time flight director at the Challenger Learning Center of Northwest Indiana, she has the opportunity to inspire students to seek careers in STEM fields by taking them on simulated missions to the moon, mars and to rendezvous with a comet.

Students will be able to explain what immigration is and how immigration enriches our community. They will also be able to read and respond to a text using a (Smekins; Yes, MA’AM) approach.
