As a teacher, each class must be assigned one grade. If you teach a class with students from different grades, we have two recommendations for setting up you Newsela class:
- Create a separate Newsela class for each grade level. This allows you to set students for their correct grade from the beginning.
- Choose one grade and assign it to the entire class. This allows you to keep everyone in one Newsela class and monitor performance as one group. For this option, we recommend setting the class at the lower grade. Remember that students can always set their own reading level for each article. Additionally, as Newsela gathers performance data for each student (through quiz results), articles will automatically be delivered at a level that reflects a combination of the student's performance and the reading level they choose.
