What is Home Page?

The Home Page serves as your hub for featured and recommended resources and allows quick access to your most recent items and assignments, quick navigation to other pages on your account, and to primary resources and explainers powered by Formative.

Let's take a closer look at the different sections of the Home Page:

Breaking News

This section will display breaking news articles hand-picked by the Newsela team. It is designed to improve visibility for Newsela's coverage of prominent events, and will appear only if any have been identified by the Newsela team.

Recommended for you

This section exists only on Teacher and Caregiver accounts and displays personalized recommendations that are refreshed multiple times per day. Recommendations are unique to your account and are based on your interactions, specifically the content that you've read through and/or assigned. As you actively fully read articles and take actions with them (i.e. Assign, add to Text Sets, Annotate, Print, Save, Share, or Present) throughout the day, you should expect your recommendations to shift accordingly.

The section will showcase 4 recommendations, you can extend the list up to 8 recommendations by clicking 'View more'.

Latest News

Every week, we bring you and your students relevant stories from our content partners. This section showcases up to 8 items of content on a scrolling display (click the arrows to scroll right or left). Additional content can be accessed by clicking on 'View all'.

Featured Premium Subject Content

This section will display an alternating list of featured subject-specific content items, carefully selected by the Newsela's Team. If you are subscribed to more than one of Newsela's premium subjects (ELA, Science, Social Studies), click on the subject tab at the top of the section to switch over and view the featured content for that specific subject. Click the 'View more' button at the bottom of the tab to access all subject-specific content available within your account.

Reading Challenge

The current reading challenge will be posted on the Home Page for quick access. You can see the closing date of the challenge listed at the top right of the section. Click 'Learn More' for additional information on how Reading Challenges work, or 'View Challenge' to access the Reading Challenge page to review the topics and the insights collected for your students.

Primary Resources (powered by Formative)

If you have a Newsela Social Studies subscription, four alternating featured primary resources will be showcased in this section. Click 'View all' to access all available Primary Resources in your account.

Science Explainers (powered by Formative)

If you have a Newsela Science subscription, click on the Science Explainers tab to view a scrolling display of featured explainers and standards-aligned Formative assessments. Select a topic from the topics menu to review the corresponding top featured items. Click the arrows to scroll the featured list right and left, and click 'View more' at the end of the scrolling menu to view more items related to the topic selected. Click 'View all' at the top of the tab to access the full list of Science Explainers available within your account.

Quick Links

Located at the top right of the Home Page you can find a list of quick links to other pages within Newsela, including:

• Promoted at your district: quick link to view the content your district's administration has promoted and recommended for use

• Your school's content: content saved by other teachers and administrators at your school

• Saved content: content you previously saved to your account

• Assignments: assignments that you have either saved as draft or assigned to your students

• Professional learning resources: quick link to Newsela's Professional Learning page where you can find recorded webinars, walkthrough videos and help articles on getting started with, and maximizing your usage of, Newsela.

Recently Viewed

Located on the right side of the Home Page, the Recently Viewed widget provides quick access to the Newsela content items you have most recently accessed. Within this widget you can click on the content item to re-access it, or save the content item to your your account to revisit at a later time by clicking the bookmark icon next to it. You can also click 'View all' to see a list of all the content recently viewed content.

Assignments

Located on the right side of the Home Page, the Assignments widget offers quick access to the assignments you have most recently assigned to students, scheduled, or saved as draft. Click on the assignment's tile to access the assignment page. You can also click 'View all' to review all your assignments.
