AI-powered Text Leveler

The AI-powered text leveler allows teachers to directly level any text that they wish to input.

How is the AI-powered text leveler different from the existing leveling capabilities in the Newsela platform?

Teachers are able to level any piece of content, including topics that might be too local or specific to be included in Newsela’s main library. With the new AI-powered text leveler, a teacher can paste in a short article or text about any topic and quickly generate student-friendly versions at a range of reading levels, ensuring every student gets the right level of challenge regardless of prior knowledge or ability.

This provides flexibility for teachers to bring local or classroom-specific content into their lessons while still supporting differentiated instruction.

Level your own text

To begin, click on Luna's 'Level your own text' button, located at the top right corner of your homepage:

Next, paste your content into the source text field, style the text to your preference using the styling menu, select one or more target grades, and click the 'Generate Level' button for Luna to level the source text for optimal grade-appropriate comprehension.

Give Luna the time they need to process your request

While Luna is smart, they aren't perfect, please review the generated leveled content to make sure it's just right before sharing it with your students. You can select to 'start over' if needed, or 'edit text' if only some changes are needed.

Once you are satisfied with the leveled text and presentation you can proceed to distribute the text to your students either by clicking 'Print leveled text' which will save the text as PDF for printing purposes, or by clicking 'Copy to clipboard' to then paste into a 3rd party tool
